International Relocation

Moving abroad is mostly paperwork wearing a moving costume. We handle both — the cartons and the customs file.

Every month, families from cities across India head to the Gulf, Singapore, the UK, Canada, Australia. What they own has to follow them — legally, intact and traceably. International moving is a different discipline from domestic: the packing standard is higher, the paperwork is unforgiving, and the handoffs between shipping lines, customs and destination agents have to be managed by someone who has done it before. That is the service.

Sea or air — the only real decision

  • Sea freight carries full households economically — a shared container (LCL) for partial loads, a dedicated 20 or 40-foot container (FCL) for full homes. Transit runs in weeks: India to Dubai is short; India to Toronto is a couple of months. Cheapest per kilo by far.
  • Air freight is for what you need in the first fortnight abroad — clothes, kitchen basics, a child's essentials. Days instead of weeks, priced by weight, so it suits boxes, not furniture.

Most families split the move: one air shipment to land on, one sea shipment with the household. We plan both against your visa dates so nothing arrives before you can legally receive it.

Export packing is a different animal

A domestic carton survives a highway; an export carton must survive a crane, a ship's hold and two ports. So everything is packed to export grade: double-walled cartons, wooden crating for furniture and art, moisture barriers against sea air, and palletised loading. Every box is numbered against a packing list in the format customs wants — because at the destination port, that list is your shipment as far as officials are concerned.

The paperwork, handled

Customs declarations, the transfer-of-residence file, insurance certificates, restricted-item guidance (every country bans something surprising — many won't take wooden items without treatment certificates, some restrict spices, batteries travel under special rules). We prepare the file with you, clear Indian customs at origin, and our destination partners clear the other end and deliver to your new door. You get one contact in India throughout — no chasing a shipping line's call centre in another time zone.

Before the container is booked, someone from the family usually still has to move across town or park belongings somewhere for the notice period — our storage and local shifting teams handle that side, and pets flying with you have their own page: pet relocation.

Costing an overseas move honestly

International quotes stand on cubic volume, mode (LCL, FCL or air), destination charges and insurance value — and the fourth item is where cheap quotes hide. Ours states destination-side costs (port handling, customs clearance, delivery) as included or excluded line by line, so the number you compare is the number that reaches your new doorstep. Currency is quoted clearly, taxes shown, and the payment schedule staged sensibly: booking, pre-sail, delivery. If a competing quote is dramatically lower, read its destination-charges line — that is almost always where the drama lives, waiting at a foreign port with your sofa.

A realistic timeline, week by week

  • Weeks 6–8 before flying: survey, quote, mode decision, vessel slot booked
  • Weeks 3–4: document file built — passport copies, visa, transfer-of-residence papers, inventory drafts
  • Week 2: export packing days at home; customs-format inventory finalised and signed
  • Week 1: container loads and seals; you fly with the airfreight box landing close behind
  • Transit: tracking updates at each port event — no radio silence oceans
  • Arrival: destination partner clears customs, delivers, unpacks; you point, they place; the new country starts feeling like furniture you know

International Relocation — Common Questions

Which countries do you cover?

The routes we handle most are the Gulf (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar), Singapore, the UK, Europe, Canada, the USA and Australia — through vetted destination partners who handle customs and final delivery locally. If your destination is elsewhere, ask; coverage is broad and we will confirm honestly rather than promise first and scramble later.

How early should I start planning an international move?

Six to eight weeks before flying is comfortable: survey, quote, packing date, vessel booking and the customs file all need room. Sea freight sails on schedules, not on demand. It can be compressed into two weeks when a job date forces it, but choices narrow and costs rise.

What items cannot be shipped abroad?

The universal list: aerosols, flammables, loose batteries, plants and perishables. Beyond that, every country has quirks — untreated wood, certain foods and spices, drone equipment, even used tyres in some places. We give you a written allowed/not-allowed list for your specific destination before packing day, so nothing is discovered at a port.

How is an international move priced?

By volume (cubic feet or metres), the route, LCL vs FCL vs air, packing grade and insurance value. Destination charges — port handling, customs, delivery — are stated in the quote as included or excluded, line by line. Compare quotes on that line-by-line basis; a low headline number with vague destination terms usually grows at the far end.

Is my shipment insured across the ocean?

Yes — marine insurance covers the shipment door to door, against your declared inventory value. It is arranged before the container seals and costs a small percentage of declared value. For a shipment crossing two ports and an ocean, it is the least optional part of the entire file.
